ISL

Today Saturday 12/11/2011 was the 2011 ISL Basketball Final, ISK vs. Rva. This game was the last game of the ISL season, a culmination of all the previous work we had put into the season game down to this game.  We had to meet the Varsity Football boys team and JV basketball girls at school at 7:30am to travel as a school to RVA which is an hour and thirty minutes away. This trip out to RVA was important because it was the last time I would ever travel to RVA to play basketball, arriving at the school we had plenty of time to warm up and get ready to play, we were able to get a lot of shots up and get our touch back. The gym was packed full with RVA fans which were very intimidating.

The game started at 10am the game began on a horrible note, we were unprepared and not confident in ourselves and in each other. As we have had so many injuries in the past we were down to just 8 people to play the final game. During the game we lost a few people to injuries which was frustrating because we were all one by one getting knocked out. Unfortunately we were unable to come back and win the game, it ended in an embarrassing loss. The game was the worst game we have ever played as a team, and I am extremely disappointed in the team as they were heavily reliant on me. As the captain of the Varsity team and as the point guard I am meant to dribble the ball up and down the court.  However if one person is meant to play a team game then that is where our difficulty came with this event.

The game benefited the RVA community as they got to watch a game against two opposing sides that have been rivals for years, and it just came to be that it was not our year.  If I could play the game over again, I would speak to my team and tell them about how I feel, that they expect to much of me. I would play harder than I ever have and defend as good as possible.  I would keep my teams spirit high and tell them all what I need them to do.
I am going to continue playing basketball as we have the upcoming ISSEA season, I will continue to push myself and expand my skills and pick my team up over and over until they are up to the standard that we need them to be. Hopefully we will see a championship in 2012 ISSEA!

Marich club

The golf tournament was one of fundraisers by
the marich club to raise money for the
upcoming bridge build in 2012 trip. The Activity was sponsored by multiple donors such as Airtel, Yara, Jave House and more. The most amazing price we received was a car from GM which we received a great deal for as the person who gets a hole in one would win some money, the car would go to the Bridging the Gap foundation and the Insurance money would go to our club. Each business paid to sponsor a golf hole which could cost anywhere from 35,000 to 70,000 shillings the gold course was donated to our club by the owner of the Windsor golf club Musoke.  Harmon Parker the CNN hero was in attendance of our event because he works with us in building the bridge. There was a raffle which was also part of this event, we got a bunch of cool prices from jewelry places and once again Airtel. Through this activity we hoped to raise as much money as possible through the tournament and the raffle ticket sales.
This activity was a culmination of a lot of word done through the year, the event was very stressful to organize as the sponsors wanted to have different signs and posters up at different holes, which we had to put up. We ran into a lot of trouble finding places to put the signs and logos on as the course is full of plants and trees, We also had trouble with the golf cart when transporting equipment from place to place as it kept breaking down. Also we had trouble organizing ourselves as half of us had to return back to the international day at school and some of us had a semi-final to play.
This activity in the long run would have a wonderful benefit to the people of the west pokot region, the money we raised at the golf tournament and the raffle will go to implementing small scale community based projects which will in the future help the community greatly. The projects we will implement will also be sustainable projects.
If I could change one thing about the project, I would organize it better and advertise it better so we would have had a lot more people who would attend. If I had time I would organize some music entertainment for the prize giving ceremony. The next time I have the chance to do something like this again I will be very excited and I would love to do this in cooperation with another club or a bigger foundation.

FINALS!

The varsity girls basketball team are in the finals, winning a thriller against Rosslyn 43-15 they girls have secured their place in the final against RVA on Saturday.
This game was my last ISL game of the season to be played at home, the game had a very rocky start as our team was demoralized after losing 3 players to injury. Leaving us with only 2 subs to rotate in. We had hoped to win the game however we did not expect to win by such as large margin once again as we are missing so many of our players.
This game was a mark of how well our team works together and what we can achieve and hopefully we will be able to show the same thing this Saturday at RVA. Going into this game i had intense nerves, i not to sure why that was, but im glad i was able to shake them off and lead our team to yet another win.
Saturday will present us with the toughest game we have played all season, this is the CLASH OF THE TITANS

Golf Tournament

Marich club, has been preparing for this huge fundraiser on the 11 of November. We have been working super hard to get as many sponsors and prizes as possible. The golf tournament is how we make the majority of our money to go towards our small scale community based projects that we will implement in the West Pokot region later on during the year.
With this activity i hope to run it smoothly as it is a huge event for this club, downer will be coming to play golf and we have been given prizes as big as a car to give away. The Golf Tournament will be attended by a lot of local media and important people in the community. We thankfully got the course for free and got companies to sponsor each hole providing us with some money.
This event is a huge deal for the club, and hopefully will go great, i have some worries as the event is on the same day as the international fair at school, causing conflicts for some people. We will not have a full club attending this event however we will do the best we can with those who make it.

Some pictures from the trip:)

Last Week of ISL season

Today marked the first day of the last week of the ISL season, my last ISL SEASON ever!
The season started early in august with a friendly against Rosslyn. Ironically they are going to be our semi final and if we don't win they will be our final game.

From this season i hoped to improve my leadership skills as well as my basketball skills, i believe that this far i have been able to accomplish my goals, i believe that i have improved my leadership skills tremendously, and my basketball skills, i have worked my hardest to improve my skills and i believe it has finally payed off. I hope to show through a win on Thursday that we as a team have improved and that we have learnt to play under pressure.

After the return of the ISSEA players we found out that our team is down to only 8 players, which means we have 3 substitutes. We will try our best to achieve the best out comes with the limited resources, we will try our best to win the trophy with a semi-final against ROSSLYN on thursday and HOPEFULLY a final against RVA on Saturday :)

42- 14

NIS VS ISK Lions

This was very challenging game as it was the first game coming out of a entire week with no practice, we were unfit and unprepared however when playing against a team with very little organization, you just need to be confident in yourself and your team mates which is what we did and were able to come out on top.
This was our final game of the round robin league matches. We have finished in second place, meaning that we will meet Rosslyn in the our semi-final :)

45-43

RVA VS. ISK
this was the toughest game of our season, definitely a great game, really putting our teamwork and fitness to the test. the game unfortunately ended with a defeat but it was a fight to the end so i am not as upset as i would be if it had been a horrible game. We hope to see RVA in the finals in about week, hopefully this time we will come out victorious but only time will tell
